I opened my email to find a note from Mychal requesting my help because he had decided it was time to make his beautiful brown eyed girl his Fiancé. I gasped and then my eyes filled with tears…even when you are anticipating it, it still takes your breath away…these precious milestones.
A couple of weeks later he came home so we could shop for the ring, starting the day with breakfast rolls and conversation with his Dad about talking to her Dad.
Then a ride to San Diego to Robbins Brothers, we walked into the store gave the sales clerk the budget and the details of what he was looking for white gold, round cut or maybe square cut and the search began.
Mychal was looking at rings but I was looking at him…
The curly headed toddler with the huge blue eyes running towards me after preschool…
The elementary kid constantly measuring himself against my shoulder to see if he was finally as tall as me…
The quiet 7th grader holding the basset beagle who would become Strider and telling me he was in love…
The confident #70 nodding his head at me from the field before the game started…
The college freshman I left at AZUSA along with a piece of my heart…
The young worship leader who emerged after a semester at High Sierra…
And now the man that was saying to me Mom, I really like the square cut….Me too… I managed to get out and I reminded him this was his gift to her and she would love it.
On to Macy’s to buy dress slacks and dress shoes for the grand dinner and the big night…and of course then on to eat.
We laughed, talked, gently nudged instruction his direction but mostly just enjoyed the preciousness of the moment.
Enjoyed our Son while he is still just ours but reveling at the thought that he had found the other half that makes him whole and she is every inch that and more than we could have ever asked or dreamed for our boy.
It was a perfect day…one I will cherish always.
